07/23/2007 - Ponte Vedra Beach, FL (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Daniel Summerhays won the Children's Hospital Invitational two weeks ago as an amateur and has announced that he is foregoing his senior year at Brigham Young University to turn professional.

Summerhays became the first amateur to ever win a Nationwide Tour title as he won on the Scarlet Course at Ohio State University Golf Club.

The All-American at BYU will make his professional debut this week at the Cox Classic. He is also entered into next week's Wichita Open.

With his win, Summerhays gains immediate full-exempt status on the Nationwide Tour for the remainder of this year and all of 2008.

The top 25 on the Nationwide Tour money list will earn their PGA Tour cards for 2008. Summerhays will have 12 full-field events to try and climb the money list for one of those coveted tour cards.

Summerhays did not collect his first-place check from his win because he was an amateur at the time, therefore he begins this week with $0 in career earnings.

"It has always been my goal and dream to play on the PGA Tour," stated Summerhays. "So the opportunity to play on the Nationwide Tour the rest of the season and the exemption for 2008 was just too much to pass up.

"Making the decision to leave BYU was a tough one. It is not easy leaving coach Bruce Brockbank and the team, but having their blessing made the decision easier on me. I just felt like this is the right time. My goal the rest of the year is to finish inside the top 25 on the money list and earn my PGA Tour card and maybe even win again."

Summerhays is just seven credits shy of earning his finance degree from BYU. He hopes to complete those requirements by December to he can focus full time on his golf by next season.
